Briana Sobecks

Senior in Chemical Engineering
Hometown: Glenview, IL
Research Project: Computational Insight into Plant Hormone Signaling Mechanisms
Faculty Sponsor: Prof. Diwakar Shukla

Briana chose Illinois because of its strength in chemistry and chemical engineering. She wanted the opportunity to pursue undergraduate research and learn outside the classroom as well as inside.

She applied for the Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Award to support her goal of becoming a researcher in computational chemistry. The CBL award offers both financial support and opportunities for professional development for her as a woman pursuing a STEM career.

Outside of class, she is the vice president of the American Chemical Society student chapter on campus. She also participates in the Campus Honors Program student council and sings in a church choir.

In Fall 2022, she will start pursuing her PhD in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University.
